WAU

WAU is your companion on walks and in everyday life with your dog. With the help of the app you can document your dog's behavior and help us with our research.

By taking a closer look at your dog in certain situations and recording your observations in the WAU app, we have the chance to find out even more about the emotions of dogs and their possible connection with certain behaviors. The aim of our research project is to come closer to the objective recording of emotions in animals.

WAU is the smart application of a Citizen Science project of the Westphalian Wilhelms University and Münster University of Applied Sciences. The WAU app enables us to collect behavioral data from a wide variety of dogs and to examine them scientifically. But it doesn't work without your help!

At the beginning of the WAU app, general information about your dog and its personality is requested. You can then use the app to document the lateralized behavior of your dog (e.g. which leg does your dog lift when urinating?). After each observation you will be asked to give an assessment of the emotional state of your dog. And you and your dog are part of our study!

The more observations you do, the better for our research work. You will of course be informed about the results of the study. As a thank you for your help, the WAU app also has an interesting and scientifically proven "dog fact" ready for you every tenth observation. You can look forward to funny and exciting information about the four-legged friends!

As part of the WAU app, the following personal data is processed by you: name, email address, profile photo (optional), age, gender (optional), the behavioral observations you have documented. These personal data are not passed on to third parties and are used exclusively to carry out the behavioral examination.
